昨日はその一つ、アル=ケ=スナンの王立製塩所に行ってきました。

小さな村、Arc et Senans
無人駅のペイントのはがれた、色あせた雰囲気がいい。

突然現れた、立派なエントランス。

無造作に見える石の積み方も、計算されているんだろうな。

門の向こうには、
製塩所長宅(la maison du directeur)と呼ばれる建物と、
広い庭が広がっている。

1982年に世界遺産に登録されたこの王立製塩所は、
ルイ１５世の任命により、
当時王室建築家だったクロード・二コラ・ルドゥー(Claude Nicolas Ledoux)
によって設計されました。
実際に建てられたのは、ルイ１６世の時代（1775～1779）と言われています。

In 1771, Louis XV appointed Ledoux Commissioner of the Salt Works of Lorraine and Franché-Comté.
Actually this was built in 1775-1779 Louis XVI's era.

もともと、製塩所で働く従業員とその家族が、ここで生活することを想定して設計されました。

上から見ると半円形になっているのですが、
最初の計画では、製塩所を中心に円形の都市ができるはずでした。
が、製塩所の経営悪化で完成にはいたりませんでした。
This site was supposed to be forming a perfect circle,
but the project never finished.

当時としてはかなり斬新なアイデア/デザインだったようです。
The project was ambitious, innovative, and a break with traditional approaches.

今では、製塩所としてより、建築物として有名なこの世界遺産。
高い塀で囲まれ、規律正しく設計された大きな建物と、
牧場の広がるのどかな村が対称的。
Nowadays this Royal Saltworks is more famous for its architecture than for the industrial activity.
